food. love. home. at JBJ Soul Kitchen

Our last Food. Love. Home. event was a such a success in partnering with the JBJ Soul Kitchen, that we will be hosting this chef demonstration series again in July 2022!

Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity and JBJ Soul Kitchen are combined their missions for this event in order to provide two of the most important resources for Ocean County families, the security of a roof over their head and food on their tables. This event took place in November where Chef Rob Wood cooked up a three-course soulful fall-themed menu:

Appetizer:
Harvest Salad
Mixed Greens, Red & Golden Beets, Sliced Almonds, Dried Apricots, & Goat Cheese; Finished with Maple Balsamic Vinaigrette

Entrée:
Soul Seasoning Braised Short Ribs
Served with Rainbow Carrots & Fingerling Potatoes; Finished with a Red Wine Demi

Dessert:
Bourbon Apple Crisp
Sliced Granny Smith Apples, Butter, Brown Sugar, Apple Cider, Bourbon, Cinnamon, Granola, Maple Syrup, & Homemade Whipped Cream

JBJ Soul Kitchen is a non-profit community restaurant, run by the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation, whose mission is to address the issues of food insecurity. The community kitchen serves paying and in-need customers healthy and delicious 3-course meals. There are no prices on their menu, but they encourage those who are able to pay for their own meal to make a $20 donation. There is also the opportunity to pay it forward by making an additional donation which will go towards the payment of a meal for someone facing financial difficulty. If you are unable to donate, you are invited to join their community to learn about volunteer opportunities and resources.

This was a fun evening learning great cooking tips from Chef Rob and also filled with lots of laughs, fun, and great food!
