Around the world, 1 in 3 people wake up each day without the stability and security of a safe, affordable home. This global housing crisis affects families in every community, including right here in Northern Ocean County.
A global movement
To meet this challenge, Habitat for Humanity is launching Let’s Open the Door, an effort designed to ignite a worldwide movement for housing access and opportunity. As we celebrate 50 years of partnering with families and communities, we’re inviting people everywhere to take action and help open doors that have long been closed. Through hands-on builds, compelling new research, pop-up experiences in select cities and storytelling that elevates lived experience, Let’s Open the Door shines a light on the realities families face — and the solutions that can help transform them.
Our local role
Our local Habitat plays a vital part in the mission behind Let’s Open the Door. Here in Northern Ocean County, we are working every day to widen access to safe, decent, affordable housing through programs such as:
New Home Construction – building strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership opportunities, with plans to break ground on our next home this summer in Brick, NJ
Critical Home Repair Program – helping homeowners stay safe in the homes they love through essential repairs and accessibility modifications
Aging in Place Initiatives – installing ramps, grab bars, and other safety features so seniors can remain independent
Financial Education & Homeownership Preparation – preparing future homeowners through educational workshops during the selection process, and continuing support for our community by providing critical home repair recipients with a community resource guide for services beyond our scope, along with a seasonal newsletter to keep our partner families informed and connected. Our programs echo the themes of the global campaign: removing barriers, strengthening communities, and opening the door to stability and opportunity.
