Laniece
23rd homeowner
Laniece’s journey to homeownership began while she was pregnant with her second son. After moving between hotels, her family spent a year in a domestic violence shelter and later two years at Dottie’s House. She eventually secured a rental home with assistance, but the stability was temporary, leading her to apply to Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program in 2022.
Although Laniece was not selected the first time, she remained hopeful. When the next application cycle opened — with only one year left in her rental — she knew the opportunity was critical. Being chosen brought immense relief, ensuring her family would not have to return to a shelter.
For her children, especially her oldest, this home represents long-awaited stability. After years of frequent moves, he can finally stay in one place, build friendships, and feel part of a community. Through Habitat, her family is beginning a new chapter rooted in security, stability, and hope.
