Northern Ocean Habitat ReStore Awarded by Department of Environmental Protection

NEPTUNE, N.J. –  The Northern Ocean Habitat ReStore was among the New Jersey ReStores that received the Outstanding Achievement in Recycling Award from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection at the 37th Annual Recycling Symposium & Awards Luncheon on October 18. By accepting donations of building materials, appliances, furniture, tools, plumbing, hardware and more, Habitat ReStores divert tons of reusable materials from local landfills; in 2017 alone, the  Northern Ocean Habitat ReStore in Toms River diverted over 290 tons of reusable material.

Habitat for Humanity ReStores offer a one-of-a-kind recycling option to local municipalities. With tipping fees in New Jersey exceeding $80 per ton, the hundreds of tons of donations that are removed from the waste stream directly reduce costs to local government. Since the Northern Ocean Habitat ReStore picks-up items for free, there is also a reduction in collection and handling costs.

With the success of Northern Ocean Habitat’s new ReStore location on Route 37 in Toms River, the organization seeks to keep even more items out of the landfill and give more reusable items a second life. All proceeds from the ReStore support adequate housing initiatives and home repairs  for northern Ocean County residents in need of safe, decent shelter.

Shop the Northern Ocean Habitat ReStore at 1214 Route 37 East in Toms River, open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. With new items arriving daily and constantly changing inventory, you never know what you will find. Looking to donate furniture, appliances or building materials? Call the ReStore donation coordinator at 732-818-9500 to schedule a free pick-up.
