Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity prides itself on being an organization that values volunteer labor and service as a vessel to assist more homeowners in need of simple, decent, affordable housing. As part of our organization’s commitment to providing a “hand up” not a “hand out,” we encourage homeowners to “pay it forward” through simple acts of kindness such as writing a thank you note that can be shared with donors and volunteers. However Northern Ocean Habitat for Humanity does not require a donation. Please note the following:

Through this holistic approach, Northern Ocean Habitat has created rewarding partnerships with The ARC, 21 Plus and Easter Seals to revitalize their group homes in various communities. This brings together Habitat’s amazing volunteers and the group home residents to work in unison to revitalize these homes into vibrant, safe and inviting places to live while removing any stigma.

The home weatherization program helps low-income homeowners, who struggle to pay their energy costs by making energy efficient home improvements and repairs.

Irene, a Brick resident, found herself needing to repair broken steps as well as installing a ramp for her two adult handicapped children that she cares for.  Irene called Northern Ocean Habitat for help.  While assessing Irene's home, our construction team also found that the front door needed to be replaced and the bathroom needed a handicap accessible shower.  Our Habitat faithful volunteers helped to transform Irene's home to make it handicap accessible for her and her sons, by building new stairs, replacing the front door and installing a handicap accessible shower.  The family now has the freedom  to move about their home without limitations.

"Thank you Habitat!"

Don, Vietnam Veteran

Northern Ocean Habitat's Veteran Repair Program helped Don, a 72 year-old Vietnam Veteran that suffered a stroke. All the windows of his mobile home in Toms River had to be screwed shut every winter so that they would stay closed.  He was only able to open one window in the summer because it was too difficult to take all the screws out.  With the help of volunteers and Congressman Andy Kim, all the windows were replaced and Don is now able to enjoy fresh air in his home again.

"I couldn't open the windows anymore. I had to screw them shut during the winter. It's not safe. God Bless them for doing this.
